In Memoriam

Alfred P. Murrah, Jr. of Oklahoma City died Sept. 29, 2005. He was born October 5, 1933 in Oklahoma City. He was in the first graduating class of Casady High School and graduated with honors in 1951. He attended Yale University, where he also graduated with honors in 1955. Afterwards, he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps before completing his education at Oklahoma University Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Editor-in-Chief of the Oklahoma Law Review. Mr. Murrah served as Director of the Oklahoma County Bar Association from 1963-66, 1973-75 and 1978-81, and was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He authored Application of Sullivan and its Progeny to Public Defamation Actions in Oklahoma, 51 OKLA. B.J. 3073 (1980). He co-authored Royalty Payments – Who Owes How Much to Whom and When?, 35 OIL & GAS INST. (1984). In addition to his law practice with Phillips Murrah, he enjoyed teaching law at the Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he taught Civil Procedure and Trial Practice. He served as a member of the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation, awarding law scholarships to worthy students. Paul also devoted time to the Youth Cornerstone Organization. And he was very proud to be an MVP volunteer at the Oklahoma City National Memorial, built on the site of a prominent city building named after Paul's father.
